A Chairde,
After a brilliant unbeaten run in the Division 2 league, the senior side failed to win their last match , which would have given them instant promotion to division 1 football. Insted the lads were entered into a play off against the second last team in division one, which was Ardagh. Ardagh who at the best of times are formidable opponents , not least when their backs are against the wall with their division one place up for grabs for the first time in thirty years.. But our lads were more determined for promotion and from the throw in they got down to the job in hand. With Shane Carrol and David Clyne back on the side the team were playing with a lot more confidence than was seen for a while, Padraig Shanley found his scoring boots and put up a tally of 2-3 to his credit. Rathcline wre always ahead in the game until ten minutes from the end when Ardagh's corner forward scored a cracking goal which drew the game. But Rathcline held them selves together and replied with four points on the trott , to leave a final tally of 2-12 to 2-8.
Well done and thanks to the manager and the selectors for their efforts throughout the year. The lads went back for refreshments to the Lough Ree where they celebrated well into the night. Here's looking for bigger things for 2004 ...........
Lanesboro Community College
The Community College lads played a challenge match against Roscommon CBS on Thursday last at Roscommon Vocational School pitch. Having played second fiddle to the strong CBS team in the first half losing on a scoreline 3-6 to 0-2, the second half told a different story. The lads made a tremendous comeback scoring 4-8, alas; it was not quite enough as the stronger team kept getting the odd score to keep them slightly ahead. This was a remarkable performance, especially in the second half and the lads must be congratulated for their bravery in the face of adversity.
